OUR THOUGHTS
AutoCamp Blagaj was quite a rustic little campsite, but we loved it almost immediately. The setting was beautiful, the pitches were spacious and there was a very friendly, relaxed feel to the place.
Each pitch had its own sink and bench, something we hadn't come across very often on our travels and a really useful touch.
The showers and toilets were basic, but clean and perfectly adequate for our stay. This wasn't a campsite about smart facilities. For us, its appeal was the setting, the space and the people who ran it.
Our welcome probably helped. We arrived on 3 April, our 50th wedding anniversary, and while checking in we were given homemade cake and a bottle of local wine. During our stay, other little treats appeared too. It was the sort of hospitality that stays with you.
The campsite had suffered flood damage during the winter and the owners were busy repairing and updating the patio and bar area while we were there. It was clearly a work in progress, but that didn't detract from our stay.
LOCATION
Blagaj is a lovely area and a great base for exploring by bike. We cycled through some fabulous countryside and local villages, as well as into Mostar, leaving Matilda safely on the pitch.
We did have a little trouble finding the campsite. We were following Google Maps but had lost our phone signal and didnβt immediately spot the turning. Coming into Blagaj, look for the turning on the right off the main road, which leads down a lane to the campsite.
WOULD WE STAY AGAIN?
Definitely. AutoCamp Blagaj wasn't polished or luxurious, but that wasn't what made it special. The beautiful setting, relaxed atmosphere and wonderful hospitality are what we remember most.
At around β¬15 a night, it was excellent value too. We'd happily stay again.
