Matilda’s Stopovers — Camping Río Mundo

A peaceful campsite surrounded by trees in the beautiful Sierra del Segura mountains. Spacious pitches, spotless but slightly dated facilities, wonderful walking and challenging cycling on quiet roads. Excellent value at €23 per night. A strong 8/10 from us!

The Campsite

A lovely campsite in a beautiful wooded setting, surrounded by trees and mountains.

The pitches were organised rather than informal, but generously sized. With the campsite almost deserted during our stay, we had plenty of space and enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere.

The facilities were a little dated, but everything was spotlessly clean, including the toilets and showers.

Getting There

The journey took us through the beautiful Sierra del Segura mountains, with winding roads and wonderful scenery.

The surrounding countryside is very hilly, something worth considering if you’re planning to explore by bike.

Exploring the Area

Cycling

We cycled from the campsite towards the waterfall. It was a long, steady climb on the way out, but the fabulous downhill ride back made up for all that effort!

The roads were exceptionally quiet and had excellent tarmac, making the route a pleasure to ride.

This is seriously hilly countryside, so some fitness or electric assistance is definitely an advantage.

Walking

We drove Matilda to the motorhome parking area at Riópar, which was a useful starting point for exploring the area.

There are plenty of walking opportunities from there, making it a good base for discovering the surrounding countryside.

Our Verdict

We loved this campsite. The beautiful wooded surroundings, generous pitches and peaceful atmosphere made it a really enjoyable place to stay.

Although the facilities were a little dated, they were spotless. At €23 per night, we thought it represented excellent value.

The surrounding countryside is wonderful for walking and cycling, although cyclists should be prepared for some substantial hills.

Our rating: 8/10 — Strongly recommended.
