How do you begin your day
Before the news, messages and notifications, I roll out my yoga mat. A reflection on morning habits and the small things that help us begin the day well.
It’s a simple question, but one that made me stop and think.
My best mornings usually start the same way. Before I look at my phone, before the news, before messages and notifications, I roll out my yoga mat and spend half an hour following a yoga class.
It’s become one of the anchors of my day. By the time I’ve finished, I’ve moved my body, cleared my mind and given myself thirty minutes that belong to nobody else.
Over time I’ve realised that those first few minutes of the day seem to set the tone for everything that follows. When I begin calmly, I tend to carry that feeling with me, even when life becomes busy later on.
Of course, not everyone wants to spend thirty minutes doing yoga, and that’s not really the point.
What struck me was how much difference a small intentional start can make.
It might be sitting quietly with a cup of tea.
Opening the curtains and noticing the morning light.
Stepping outside for a breath of fresh air.
Or simply taking a moment to think about something you’re looking forward to that day.
None of these things are dramatic. Most take only a few minutes.
We often imagine that happiness comes from the big moments, but sometimes it’s hidden in the ordinary parts of our day that we rush past without noticing.
Tomorrow morning I’ll be on my yoga mat as usual.
But it did leave me wondering:
What small thing could make the first few minutes of your day a little more enjoyable?
