Stunning lakeside cycling, mountain views and a lively Bavarian town made Füssen one of our favourite stops in Germany. An excellent-value stellplatz and a place we wished we could have stayed longer.

Our take
This was one of our favourite stopovers in Germany. The stellplatz offered excellent value, with good facilities including showers and toilets, all within easy walking distance of Füssen town centre. It provided an ideal base for exploring the surrounding lakes and mountains.
The weather was glorious throughout our stay, allowing us to make the most of the cycling. We rode all the way around the lake, enjoying spectacular views of the mountains reflected in the water. The scenery was some of the best we encountered during the trip.
Füssen itself had a wonderful atmosphere. The streets were bustling with people enjoying the spring sunshine, while cafés and restaurants spilled out onto the pavements creating a lively and welcoming feel.
Although many visitors come to see Neuschwanstein Castle, we never felt the need. The lakes, mountains and vibrant town provided more than enough to fill our time. In fact, we would happily have stayed longer had a weather front not been moving in.
A superb stopover and somewhere we would definitely visit again.
