Our take

Camping Anderwald is a wonderfully relaxed campsite in a beautiful setting beside Faaker See.

Rather than marked pitches, campers simply choose a space amongst the trees, giving the whole site a natural feel that we really liked. It feels much less regimented than many commercial campsites and blends beautifully into its surroundings.

We stayed for two nights and found it an excellent base for exploring the area. There are plenty of walking and cycling opportunities straight from the campsite, while Villach is an easy ride away along well-maintained cycle paths.

The facilities were very good, with clean, modern showers and toilets. The washing machines, dryer and washing-up area were all conveniently housed in the same building, making everything easy to find and use. Fresh bread was available each morning, and there was also a traditional Austrian restaurant on site.

The atmosphere was peaceful and friendly, and with the mountains providing a stunning backdrop, it was somewhere we were always happy to return to after a day out exploring.

Overall, Camping Anderwald struck a great balance between good facilities and a relaxed, natural setting. It's a campsite we would happily return to.
