What Caught My Eye Recently
A collection of photographs and the stories behind them. A summer of changing landscapes, unexpected wildlife, good company and the little moments that are easy to overlook.
Not just the places I’ve visited, but the little things that might once have passed me by. A butterfly resting on a path. A dragonfly in the garden. A simple act of kindness outside a village church. Time spent with family and friends. Even a quiet moment waiting on a golf course.
Every photograph has a story. Here are a few of mine.
🦋 Hummingbird Hawk-moth
Until this summer I didn’t even know these fascinating little creatures existed. At first I thought it was some sort of unusual wasp. Watching it hover from flower to flower was mesmerising. Its now a regular visitor to my garden.
🦋 Peacock Butterfly
I’d seen peacock butterflies many times before, but this one settled long enough for me to stop and really appreciate just how beautiful it was.
🐉 Southern Hawker Dragonfly
A new visitor to our garden. It landed just long enough for a photograph before disappearing again. One of those lucky moments.
💜 Blessing Rock Garden, Eccleston
Outside the Church Inn in Eccleston I came across this colourful little Blessing Rock Garden. Visitors are invited to leave a painted stone, take one if they need a little encouragement or pass one on to someone else. Such a simple idea, but one that made me stop and smile.
🌊 A Quiet Stretch of the River Dee
The River Dee was looking particularly peaceful that day. We stood for a while watching the water before carrying on towards Chester.

Looking across the river towards Chester, it’s easy to see why this is such a popular place to walk. History and nature sit comfortably alongside each other.
🐄 Summer in Gold
Weeks without much rain have turned many of the fields the colour of straw. Not quite the green we’d usually expect, but beautiful in a completely different way.
⛳ Taking It All In
Golf has a habit of making you slow down. While waiting for the next shot, I found myself admiring the colours of the late summer course and the wooded hillside beyond.

Some of the best conversations happen while walking. No rush, no agenda—just putting one foot in front of the other and enjoying the company.

One of the first signs that summer is quietly giving way to autumn. The seasons are always changing if we take the time to notice.
🎉 Celebrating 70
Turning 70 wasn’t really about the birthday itself. It was about being surrounded by family , sharing a meal and feeling grateful for the people who’ve been part of the journey.
Perhaps that’s why I’ve enjoyed taking these photographs so much.
They’re not just reminders of where I’ve been.
They’re reminders to keep noticing the little things, because so often they’re the moments that make life feel rich.
