The Courage to Press Publish
I nearly didn’t press Publish on my first post. Eight months and more than a hundred posts later, I’ve learnt that courage doesn’t always mean making a huge life change. Sometimes it simply means starting before you feel ready.
A quote from James Clear landed in my inbox recently, and it reminded me of something that changed everything for me.
“Your first attempt might not be very good… The bridge between where you are and where you want to be is courage.”
That really struck a chord.
Not because I thought I was going to become a writer, but because I almost didn’t press Publish.
When I started Living Life to the Full, I had no idea whether anyone would read it. I wasn’t confident in my writing, I’d never built a website before, and every post felt like it might be the one where people thought, “What’s she doing?”
But I published it anyway.
Then I wrote another.
And another.
Looking back now, I can see that pressing Publish wasn’t really about sharing a blog post. It was about giving myself permission to learn in public.
Over the past eight months I’ve written more than a hundred posts, built a website I’m genuinely proud of, learnt more technology than I ever imagined, and connected with people from all over the world.
None of that happened because I was ready.
It happened because I started.
It’s easy to look at something new and think we’re not good enough yet.
Maybe we aren’t.
But the only way to become good at something is to keep showing up, keep learning, and keep pressing Publish.
If I’d waited until I thought I was a good writer, this website would never have existed.
Sometimes courage isn’t climbing a mountain or making a huge life change.
Sometimes it’s simply pressing Publish.
