Our stay
Meathop Fell proved to be an excellent base for exploring the Southern Lakes. The site is peaceful, beautifully maintained and surrounded by countryside, with views towards the Kent Estuary towards Morcambe Bay.
We stayed on Pitch 57, a grass pitch beside the dog-walking field and gate. It certainly wasnโt level, but we loved it. The open outlook and peaceful setting more than made up for the slight slope, and weโd happily choose it again.
The wardens gave us a warm welcome, explained everything clearly and helped us settle in.
The final approach is along a short, narrow country lane and needs a little care in a larger motorhome, but we had no problems reaching the site in Matilda.

Our experience
We completed two fantastic bike rides directly from the campsite. One took us through Cartmel and Coniston to Windermere, while the other followed the estuary towards Arnside before climbing into the rolling countryside around Kendal.
Returning each afternoon to the peace and quiet of Meathop Fell was one of the highlights of the trip.
Our verdict
A quiet, friendly and exceptionally well-kept campsite in a beautiful part of Cumbria. Its location makes it ideal for exploring the quieter southern side of the Lake District by bike, on foot or by motorhome.
Would we return? Definitely
