Our take

Saarburg was one of our first stops in Germany and proved to be a lovely place to spend a couple of days.

The campsite itself was perfectly good, although it felt a little untidy in places, perhaps because we were visiting early in the season before everything was fully up and running. The facilities were good, although from memory the showers operated using a prepaid card system and the laundry facilities were not yet available due to the time of year.

What really made this stop special was the location. The campsite sits tucked into the side of a hill and provides an excellent base for exploring the area. We enjoyed some great cycling along the river, while more challenging routes into the surrounding hills were available for anyone looking for a tougher ride.

Saarburg itself was a delightful surprise. The town square was bustling with people enjoying the spring sunshine, cafés were busy, and the famous waterfall running through the centre gives the town a character all of its own.

A beautiful place that we would happily visit again.
