Our take

First impressions weren't great. The signage wasn't particularly inspiring, there were older caravans near the entrance, and the grass was longer than you might expect from a typical commercial campsite. At first glance it didn't feel especially special.

But we're really glad we stayed.

The facilities turned out to be excellent, with modern, spotless showers and toilets that were among the best we encountered. The whole place gradually grew on us during our stay.

The location is superb. Surrounded by mountains, the campsite sits directly on the Tauernradweg, one of Austria's best-known long-distance cycle routes, and there are plenty of walking routes nearby. Golling Waterfall is only a short walk away and well worth a visit.

The attached hotel served excellent food and the staff were friendly and welcoming throughout our stay.

What we came to appreciate most was the campsite's more natural feel. We're not really fans of perfectly manicured campsites with immaculate hedges and ruler-straight rows. Torrenerhof felt more relaxed and authentic, sitting comfortably within its mountain setting.

Rating: ⭐ 8/10

Excellent facilities, friendly staff and a superb location for walking and cycling. The campsite feels a little rustic and could benefit from some TLC in places, but the setting and facilities more than make up for it.
