🇭🇷 CAMPING OPATIJA/IČIĆI – OPATIJA, CROATIA

A peaceful out-of-season stop near Opatija, with a fabulous view from our pitch and easy access to the coastal path. We loved exploring the area on foot, even if the campsite itself wasn’t fully open.

⭐ Our Rating – 6.5/10
We visited well out of season when the campsite was effectively closed, so we certainly didn't see it at its best and can't fairly judge the facilities as they would be during the main season.
💶 Price – Approximately €15–€20 for one night. The original price quoted was higher, but we negotiated a lower rate as the facilities were closed.

FACILITIES

The showers, toilets and other campsite facilities were locked during our stay, so we can't comment on their standard. Electric hook-up was available.

OUR THOUGHTS

We found a good spot for Matilda beneath the trees, with a fabulous view across the bay towards the mountains. For one night, the campsite suited us perfectly. It was very quiet, but the real attraction was its location.

A short walk downhill took us to the sea and the coastal path, which runs through Ičići towards Opatija. We set off along it that afternoon and really enjoyed exploring the area on foot.

Opatija felt quite different from the other parts of Croatia we had visited, with grand villas and hotels, palm trees and gardens lining the waterfront. Its development as a fashionable Austro-Hungarian seaside resort in the late 19th century helped explain the distinctly Central European feel of the town.

There wasn't much scope for us to explore further by bike. The mountains rise steeply behind the coast and, having enjoyed a good walk along the coastal path, we felt one night was enough for us.👍

WHAT WE LIKED

  • Excellent location close to the sea
  • Easy access to the coastal path
  • Lovely walk towards Opatija
  • Interesting architecture and history
  • Peaceful during our out-of-season stay

WOULD WE STAY AGAIN?

Probably not. We really enjoyed exploring Opatija and the coast on foot and were glad we'd stopped, but getting there along the winding, undulating coastal road wasn't a journey we'd be keen to repeat in the motorhome.
It was a lovely area to experience, but one visit was probably enough for us.
